The workplace often stands as a testament to productivity, efficiency, and constant pursuit of goals. In the midst of these demands, the concept of rest might seem incongruent as the reward for hard work is more work. However, the wisdom found in scriptures offers invaluable insights on the significance of incorporating rest within the workplace, not just as a physical necessity but as a means to foster productivity, well-being, and spiritual rejuvenation.
Genesis 2:2-3 establishes a powerful precedent for rest, as God Himself rested on the seventh day after creating the world. This act sanctified the day as a Sabbath—a day of rest—which means that humanity should honor rest as a crucial part of life recognizing the need for balance between work and rejuvenation.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 and 3:13 highlights the importance of appropriate timing for various activities, including both work and rest. "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens... It is also the gift of God that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all their toil."
Furthermore, Jesus himself exemplified the need for rest amidst work. In Mark 6:31, when the disciples were busily engaged in ministry, Jesus encouraged them to come away to a quiet place and rest. This gesture underscores the significance of acknowledging one's labour while also recognizing the importance of rest and restoration.
In the workplace, finding moments for rest is not a sign of inefficiency but a recognition of our human limitations and the divine mandate for rest. It's about understanding that productivity flourishes not just through ceaseless labour but through a balanced rhythm that includes periods of rest and rejuvenation. Integrating rest in the workplace can manifest in various forms like taking short breaks during the workday for prayer, meditation, or simply stepping away from the desk to recharge, taking some days off to spend more time with God and travelling can offer moments of spiritual rejuvenation.
In conclusion, scriptures provide profound guidance on the significance of incorporating rest within the workplace. It's not about fostering laziness but about recognizing the need for balance and restoration in the midst of work. Rest is not a hindrance to success; it's a divine rhythm that leads to holistic well-being and greater fulfilment in the workplace.

Let's Pray:
Dear Lord, thank You for the work that You have given me! I am grateful for this great gift from You. Yet Lord, You are aware of the stress I am undergoing in my work but I know I will find rest in you because you said it in your word and I believe it.
